An Atlas of Ancient Maps in China - City Maps
A collection of ancient Chinese maps of cities and towns.
This book deals with a total of 213 maps and 85 kinds (a kind for each city/town/settlement) from the late Neolithic Age all the way down to the end of the Qing Dynasty. Some maps were painted on cliffs, others on tortoise shells, bricks or stones, and still others on silk, tomb-walls or paper of various textures. Among them, the Map of Settlements, Hunting Map and County Map are listed in Part One as they date far back and are not specifically devoted to any city. In Part Two, the main part, are the other maps of 82 cities, concerning themselves technically with city layout. 2004, hardcover, 371pp., illustrated in color. Text in Chinese and English. 14.2" W x 10.6" H.
