Canoeing the Wild Rivers is your guide to the St. Croix and Brule river systems of northwestern Wisconsin. The many sparkling lakes and hundreds of miles of free-flowing rivers makes this area a haven for canoeists. Fast water, challenging rapids, scenic shorelines and semi- wilderness solitude are present in abundance. Two of the streams, St. Croix and Namekagon, have such outstanding values that they were included among teh original group of U.S. Rivers reserved for recreation by the Wild Rivers Act of 1968. The St. Croix and Namekegon Rivers comprise the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway, a unit of the National Park Service in cooperation with the State Departments of NAtural Resources and County Forest Administration.
