The Ocala National Forest, located in central Florida, is approximately 385,000 acres and is the southernmost forest in the continental United States. This unique, sub-tropical forest is rich in water resources with more than 600 lakes, rivers and springs. Four natural springs are located in the popular recreation areas at Juniper Springs, Salt Springs, Alexander Springs, and Silver Glen Springs.

The 567,742 acre Apalachicola National Forest is the largest of Florida’s three national forests and was established in 1936. It crosses six watersheds and connects with the Apalachicola Rifer, the New River, the Ochlockonee River, the Sopchoppy River and Lost Creek. These rivers and streams provide a steady freshwater flow to productive coastal bays and estuaries.
