Welcome to the Shawnee National Forest (NF), part of the U.S.D.A. Forest Service system and the only national forest in Illinois.  Totaling about 286,400 acres the Shawnee NF is located in the southern tip of Illinois and offers a variety of outdoor opportunities and diverse landscapes.  In contrast with the remainder of Illinois, the Shawnee NF’s rolling landscape and rugged bluffs, is home to a diversity of plant and animal life.  Covered in deciduous forests and cradled between two major river ways (Ohio River and Mississippi River), there’s never a shortage of things to do in the Shawnee NF.
